On June 2, the @ welcomed a new, striped friend. Abbey, the momma zebra, and Zack, the proud dad, were deemed new parents with their newborn, a girl foul. She was born weighing 77.55 pounds and stands at about 3 feet tall. The zoo now has 5 zebras.
Attention all football fans: the Redskins have released this year’s Richmond training camp schedule. Practices are free and will start on July 28 and last until Aug. 14. You could even end up with some autographs! (But as you start going and making plans, you should understand that their practice times and days can be changed or even canceled without notice.)

Here’s a recipe for those on a diet with a sweet tooth! Hello to Fit shared her recipe for delicious almond flour strawberry banana muffins. Here’s all you need: 2 cups of almond flour, 2 eggs, 2 egg whites, maple syrup, baking soda, apple cider vinegar, kosher salt, vanilla extract, coconut oil, a banana, strawberry apricot jam and about 30 minutes.
Television, blogs, Pinterest or almost any other source of information can make parenting seem like a breeze for so many, but in all reality, it’s a struggle for more than a lot of people. After getting an email from a reader feeling like a failure at life, Busy Budgeter wants to remind parents that there is more to a “perfect” family than what you see. She also has some advice to remember whenever you’re feeling small and low.
Veteran and memory specialist Ron White has made it his mission to remember all who lost their lives fighting in Afghanistan. White, who also served there, memorized the 2,300 names and their ranks to pay his respects, as they were not able to return home from the war like he was. Virginia blogger, Deb Runs, wrote recently about running freakin’ 30-plus miles in just like 20 hours (she was running a relay, apparently, and is not crazy.) While that’s definitely in the extreme, she knows that recovering can be tough. She advises anyone who is recovering from a run or running routine to try the following to get back to 100 percent: Get a lot of sleep, stretch, keep moving, ease back into your workouts and down nutrients. Kenita Jackson, a Norfolk native, graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School recently What makes her graduation really special, WAVY reports, is that she had all of the odds stacked against her (she grew up in a violent neighborhood). With a lifetime of struggles and everyone telling her being a doctor isn’t for her, Jackson can proudly say that she’s a surgical assistant! Congratulations!

2016 seems to be the year of the superheroes … and villains. Movies such as “Deadpool,” “Suicide Squad,” “Batman VS. Virginia blogger, Perfect Fit By Jordan, shared her journey of abstaining from alcohol for 50 days and shared why we should all try it. She admitted that the first two weeks were a little weird for her, but after that, she felt great! Her mind, body and soul feel better, and now she doesn’t even miss the boozy beverages. Maybe try a 50-day dry run on your own?

Mike Phillips, an officer who died in the line of duty, has been honored with a street named after him in Virginia Beach. Phillips was killed while undercover, when he investigating a drug operation in the Green Run area of the city back in 2008. Mike Phillips Way is located near Tallwood High School and intersects with Kempsville Road.

A therapy dog named Tucker has been a key source of encouragement for a lot of #HRVA seniors. The Atlantic Shores Retirement Community in Virginia Beach have the dog, who was rescued from his old owner, as an aide to their exercise. He goes on runs with them, stays by their side all in addition to how much joy he brings them.
In the form of a $2,000 scholarship, the AJ Hadsell Memorial Scholarship Fund is helping to make Atlanta’s Morehouse College more affordable for a Norview High School senior named Jaylen. The scholarship was created by the mother of AJ Hadsell, a #HRVA teenager who went missing and was later found dead.
It’s pretty stereotypical that most garages are messy, but hey, it happens. Busy Budgeter shared three steps to clean up your vehicle’s home. First, you’ll want to figure out the use of your garage. Is it for a car? Tools? Trash storage? Then make sure you get the right type of storage for your garage that will suit all your needs. Lastly, store common items together. Read more here.
